Stories of Champions
and the National Arabian Shows
by Dixie Ryan
This rare book covers seven years of champion horses and National Arabian Shows and was an attempt to preserve the history of the Nationals and the horses that won them. This book contains forgotten facts about the National shows and interesting stories of the lives of many of the people who have bred and shown Arabian horses. For each year, Ryan describes the Champion and Reserve Champion Mare and Stallion the remainder of the top ten for each gender. Starting in 1963, she also lists the top horses in the performance classes. For the mares and stallions, she provides a brief description and history of each horse, along with a two-generation pedigree and one or more photos. The performance horses have just the basic information for each horse, along with photos of some of them.
This early period
in Arabian shows featured some of the names that are now known to every Arabian
breeder, including Bask, Fadjur, Bay Abi, Prince Hallany, and Lewsifield Bold
Hawk and many more. This is a wonderful book for anyone who breeds or shows
Arabian horses.
